TOEFL: 
Your homework assignment for Monday is to complete the reading passage: Feminism and Masculism. Please read the passage, record your reading time, and then answer the proceeding 10 questions and record the time it took you to answer the questions. The second assignment also due Monday, is the re-write of integrated essay. I will collect your completed essay (typed). Please have both assignments ready to hand in on Monday.

Any students who have late assignments to hand in--I will accept them for a full grade till this Friday by 9:45am. After this Friday--they will be given a grade of zero--No exceptions !

Please complete the TWO review pages for the verb-to have. Remember to skip the page on writing- we will do that in class on Tuesday. We will review your homework at the beginning of class on Tuesday.

TOEFL:
Please complete your outline and essay. Remember to integrate (combine) information from the reading and listening passage. Use the sample essay I provided to guide your writing. Refer to its language and transitions to add flow to your ideas. Also due Monday is the reading passage. You are to complete the reading, answer 4 comprehension questions, and complete the two exercises using synonyms, and be prepared to paraphrase the reading in class. All of this is due MONDAY. I will check your homework for assignment grade at the beginning of class.

Grammar:
There will be a quiz on Thursday. This will be a 20-point quiz. It will cover everything we have learned so far:

  • noun classes (countable vs uncountable, collective, proper vs. common, abstract vs. concrete)
  • verb (to be, in simple present and past)
  • adjectives
  • articles
  • prepositions
  • active vs. passive voice
Remember, you will be asked to identify these grammar components, as well as, write sentences using these grammar components. The quiz will be similar to the review we did in class today--No Surprises ! Please come prepared. If you have any questions or if you would like to meet with me ahead of time, please email/call/text me to decide on an appropriate time. Good Luck studying.

Grammar:
For this assignment, you need to use 1 or 2-3 pictures (magazine, newspaper, personal photos, children's books) and describe what is happening in the picture in 10 sentences. Please write a total of 10 sentences using nouns, verbs, adjectives, and prepositions. You should use either the present and/or past tense of the verb to be. As always, you are encouraged to write as much as you have learned.


 You will share you work on Tuesday. Please email me with any questions you may have.

Please remember to select 5 vocabulary terms from the Academic Word list (bold words in the listening transcript). Be prepared to define the word in your own words, 2 synonyms, and 1 sentence -- Quiz on Monday at the beginning of class(8:30am).

Grammar: 
There will be a quiz on Tuesday--Please review all of your noun classes (proper, common, abstract, concrete, countable, uncountable, and collective) and verbs. For each you should be able to provide ONE  sentence using that noun/verb as an example and a simple definition. Also, review active vs. passive voice. You should be able to write and change sentences into active and/or passive.

TOEFL: 
Please remember to select 5 vocabulary words from the Academic Word List. Please pick five words that you do not know at all. Be prepared to write a definition of the word, two synonyms, and one logical sentence. Please remember, the definition must be in your own words and not a memorized statement from the list. Really spend time thinking about the word so if you see it again, you will know what it means. On Monday, we will begin with a quiz on your selected five words and then start our listening practice.
